Vacation Simulator – Preview (PAX East 2018)

Owlchemy Labs is back at it again with their quirky simulator games.

I was lucky enough to try Vacation Simulator on Oculus. If you have ever played their previous game, Job Simulator, then you know how silly and fun these games can be. The demo started me off on a sunny colorful beach. It was pleasant and I loved watching the water and characters move in the world around me. I eventually made my way into a shop where I tried on a variety of hats and sunglasses. The NPC behind the counter then tasked me with taking pictures. I obviously had to take a bunch of selfies with all of my fun hats and glasses. I even managed to take some pictures while relaxing in the water. To let the character behind the counter know I was ready, I had to wave to him – which I thought was a cute way to interact in game.

After my picture shenanigans I found myself at a grill. I joyfully pulled out multiple meets from the freezer and slapped them on the hot service. Of course there were many condiments and my goal was to make a dubious concoction. Even in the short time I had with the game I could tell the potential for open ended nonsense.
