The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos – PAX East 2020 Preview

The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos is a turn based dungeon crawling RPG with a cast of wacky characters.

Often in video games chance is a mechanic, and often those chances are not presented to the player. Naheulbeuk does the exact opposite. Whether it is your percent chance to hit a target or a list of buffs and nerfs, this game has the stats needed to help you make an informed decision. Everything can leveraged to the player’s benefit from the direction they face to the amount of health they have remaining.

Naheulbeuk heavily plays off of RPG tropes while not taking itself too seriously. Burp and slap attacks from orcs help to keep the mood light. The game is tastefully raunchy and definitely gave me a chuckle or two. The overarching story of a band of treasure seeking miscreants plays it close to genre convention but the banter makes the game shine. Orcs, assassins, and archers all feel like familiar characters and made it easy to dive right in.

The visuals this game provides are beautiful. The dark and gloomy dungeons are a perfect contrast between the neon character markers. The monsters and environments looked and felt exactly like what you would expect. The UI is intuitive and makes a complex game more easily accessible. But it’s by no means easy. The game can be quite challenging.

There is a lot to love about the world, characters, and environments and I was pleased to find out that there are many ways to do that. This series has books, comics, and even a band (The Naheulband).

The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos is set to release in summer 2020 but you can Steam wishlist it now!
