The Great Indoors Sale: Pick Up These Indies For Dirt Cheap

It’s about that time of year again. The sun is shining, birds are chirping, and I’m battening down the hatches, drawing the shades, and booting up my systems to snag some of the great deals in Sony’s Great Indoors sale.

There are so many amazing games included in this sale such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Destiny 2 Forsaken (which I’m definitely not annoyed that just last week I spent full price on). But with all these deals on AAA titles, it’s easy to overlook the many smaller games that are being sold for dirt cheap as well. Today, I’m going to help you dig through the plethora of skins and DLC in the Great Indoors Sale to uncover some awesome indie games you should pick up.

There are several different consoles featured in the sale stretching from the PS4 all the way back to the PSP, but the only games that’ll be featured in the article are for the PS4 and PS Vita consoles. I also made sure to only pick out titles that were on sale for at least 50% off, if not more. Prices will, of course, vary depending on whether you have PlayStation Plus or not.

Deadlight (PS4) Retail Price: $14.99, Sale Price: $7.49, PS Plus Price $3.74

In this 2.5D survival platformer, you’ll take control of Randall Wayne on his journey across a desolate wasteland, formerly known as Seattle, in search of his family. But naturally, because that’s not hard enough, you’ll also have to survive a gauntlet of challenges including the undead.

Crypt of the Necrodancer (PS4/PS Vita) Retail Price: $14.99, Sale Price: $4.49, PS Plus Price $2.99

Crypt of the Necrodancer is quite unique. Not only is it an interesting roguelike, but it’s also a rhythm game as well. You’ll have to navigate a dungeon full of dancing skeletons, mushrooms, and all manner of beasties – all the while keeping to the beat of the music.

Terraria (PS4)Retail Price: $19.99, Sale Price: $8.99, PS Plus Price: $6.99

Unless you’ve been living under a poorly animated rock since late 2011 you’ll know exactly what this game is. But just in case you haven’t heard, Terraria is a 2D survival game with retro pixel art graphics, similar to Minecraft but minus one dimension and more fantasy oriented.

Nex Machina (PS4) Retail Price: $19.99, Sale Price: $4.99, PS Plus Price: $2.99

From the fantastic development studio Housemarque, known for hits such as Resogun and Alienation, comes another home run of a twin-stick shooter. In Nex Machina, you’re tasked with saving the human race from certain annihilation at the hands of machines that have reached consciousness.

Armello Deluxe Bundle (PS4)Retail Price: $44.99, Sale Price: $13.49, PS Plus Price: $8.99

In this “board game come to life,” you’ll take control of a hero from a fairy-tale clan embarking on a journey to seize the throne from the mad king. With this edition, you’ll not only get the critically acclaimed Armello but also you’ll receive all its major DLC as well, making this an outrageously amazing bang for your buck.

Steamworld Dig (PS4/PS Vita)Retail Price: $9.99, Sale Price: $2.99, PS Plus Price: $1.99

In this platform mining adventure, you’ll take control of Rusty a lone mining steambot looking to make his fortune. For fans of robots and westerns, the Steamworld series is the greatest thing since Will Smith’s Wild Wild West.

Steamworld Dig 2 (PS4/PS Vita)Retail Price: $19.99, Sale Price: $9.99, PS Plus Price: $7.99

This sequel to the renowned Steamworld Dig follows in the footsteps of its predecessor while also refining many of its gameplay elements. Anyone wishing to get the complete story of the Steamworld Dig series should be sure to purchase both while they’re cheap.

Steamworld Heist (PS4/PS Vita)Retail Price: $14.99, Sale Price: $7.49, PS Plus Price: $5.99

Steamworld Heist is a departure from the Steamworld series. While based in the same universe, Heist couldn’t be more different than the other games. Instead of a mining game, this time around you’ll take command of a crew of steambot pirates in turn-based tactical battles.

2064: Read Only Memories (PS4/PS Vita)Retail Price: $19.99, Sale Price: $5.99, PS Plus Price: $3.99

For those looking for an interesting adventure game to sink their teeth into, look no further than 2064: Read Only Memories. In this world of robots and wonder you’ll be tasked with uncovering a massive conspiracy that will change life as you know it.

NeuroVoider (PS Vita) Retail Price: $9.99, Sale Price: $4.99, PS Plus Price: $3.99

By far the weirdest game on this list, NeuroVoider sees you play as a handcrafted robot operated by a colorful brain intent on shooting up evil robots and their master the NeuroVoider. This twin-stick shooter RPG with rogue-lite elements can be played with up to 4 players, so if you’re looking to demolish some robots with friends this seems like the game for you.

Of course, if none of these games strike your fancy like they do mine, there are many other amazing indie games currently on sale. So make sure to pick up a few and broaden your gaming horizons. I personally am going to pick up the Steamworld games, because I obviously have an unnatural obsession with robots and westerns #wildwildwestwasagoodmovie.
