Stronghold Warlords – PAX East Preview

Dating back all the way to 2001, Stronghold has stood as one of the great RTS franchises with numerous titles. Firefly Studios is now developing a new title in the series called Stronghold Warlords that brings the franchise to a new era, set in the Far East.

Players familiar with the series will feel at home with the moment to moment gameplay. Manage your peasants, granary stocks, taxes, and more in order to build up your army and conquer other warlords. Though many of these mechanics have become commonplace, there are dozens of new elements that Firefly Studios is bringing to make things fresh. New units include fire lances, Mongolian bowmen and, of course, samurai. There’s also a new mechanic that involves recruiting other warlords on the map to fight by your side when you lay siege to your enemies. 

One of the most striking features of the demo was the total visual re-haul. Food types, workers, buildings, and everything in between are all changed in order to fit the new landscape. Stronghold Warlords appears to have walked the fine line between creating something fresh, while recreating what we know and love about the series.
