Platted That! – Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Disclaimer: Trust no one. This Platted That! contains minor gameplay spoilers. Trust only in the Force.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has perhaps one of the most confusing placements of a colon in recent memory, and is also one of the greatest Star Wars games ever released. When EA acquired publishing rights for all Star Wars games, we felt a great disturbance, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. The track record of EA has been dubious at best, having only released two lackluster Battlefront titles that had some appeal but ultimately tasted flat, and a mobile game that is fine… I guess… for a mobile game.

I watched Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order with a lot of concern. It was really going to be crushing to have another Star Wars game come out half-cooked, but it turned out to be an incredible, if short experience. And it has a pretty achievable Platinum Trophy. Let’s check it out.

The atmosphere and feel of this game just leaves me hungry for more Star Wars.

Overview

Take a deep breath in relief: there are no missable trophies, and there are no trophies tied to difficulty. In Fallen Order, difficulty really comes down to what kind of game you want to play. If you’re a Dark Souls/Bloodborne veteran who wants to squeeze some challenge and gameplay time out of the experience, then crank the difficulty all the way up. The Grandmaster tier will require precise timing of parries and will have you quaking in anticipation of large groups of enemies or nydacks. Playing on lower difficulties will make the game feel a little more cinematic, and will really make you feel like the kind of unkillable jedi we all think we would be (but probably wouldn’t). So experiment with what difficulty suits you, and enjoy the adventure and excitement (not that you may be craving those things).

Combat Trophies

Since enemies regularly respawn, and different groups of enemies require different tactics, even on the simplest difficulty, its very likely players will unlock all, or most all trophies through completion of the campaign. Most of them are tied to force powers that unlock after narrative progression. The only two that I had remaining after completing the story was one that required defeating enemies with explosives and defeating enemies with empowered slow. Heads up with the explosive kills: there is a rocket-based enemy type, and force push can be used to deflect their projectiles. The rocket troops don’t spawn very often, which is why I had not unlocked it, but they can be farmed on more than one planet (on Kashyyyk there is a location on the way to the big-ass tree where three rocket troopers spawn together). Empowered slow kills are actually very easy, but I had not been holding down the button long enough to trigger the animation that signals the advanced move has been done. Learn from my failure you must.

There are also trophies related to defeating optional bosses in the form of creatures and bounty hunters. These optional fights are pretty easy to stumble into, and one of them has already become a meme. However, if the combat trophies prove too difficult, consider lowering the difficulty so that you can focus on learning the skills required. Don’t make it any harder than it needs to be.

Exploration

Fallen Order is designed for back tracking. The majority of time spent mopping up trophies will probably be spent back tracking to finish mapping out planets and grabbing collectibles. The in-game map will list percentage completion for each area, as well as a number of collectibles (listed as x out of x). This makes it easier to pinpoint which areas you’re missing collectibles from, and there are plenty of YouTube videos to grab what you need. As always, we recommend PowerPyx for the best walkthroughs.

There is a collectible that’s only tracked in the ship: plants. Each planet has a few plants you can collect and grow on your ship, the Mantis. collecting them is not especially difficult, but the trophy does not pop until all the plants have fully grown. This requires in-game passage of time, anywhere from forty-five minutes to an hour. Once you collect all the seedlings, just pop off the ship and go do some laundry. When you come back to check on the plants, they should be all grown-up, and you should hear the delightful *ding* of a new Platinum Trophy.

“Feed me Seymour.”

There’s really not much else in terms of tips and tricks. Fallen Order is a pretty straightforward Platinum. More than anything, since you’ll be back tracking anyway, we recommend just enjoying the story on whatever difficulty suits you best, and then hunting down the last combat and collectible trophies at your leisure. It’ll probably be awhile before any new Star Wars games come out, so you’ll want to enjoy this one as much as you can.

As always, we want to know what you think! What did you think of Fallen Order? What are you Platting now? We’re looking forward to seeing the trophy list for Nuaghty Dog’s Last of Us Part II, as the Plat for Last of Us was pretty tough. Send us a tweet – we’d love to hear from you!
