Platted That! – Far Cry 5

Is Boomer a good boy?

Disclaimer: The following contains gameplay spoilers, but no story spoilers for Far Cry 5.

Far Cry 5 arrived this spring with controversy and gave gamers a new and intense appreciation for the simple efficiency of the shovel. Especially a shovel with a smiley face painted on it. Despite some controversy on Far Cry 5’s political tone, cooperative play progression, and the “resistance meter,” the game is a fun ride that’s easy to recommend. Far Cry 3 Classic Edition released for season pass holders at the end of May and will be available in June for purchase. On top of that, the first DLC for Far Cry 5, set in the jungles of wartime Vietnam, is set to release in early June. With all this Far Cry content coming out, now is the perfect time to head back into the base game and grab a pretty easy Platinum Trophy. Here’s a few tips to get started.

Organic

For most players, more than half of the trophies should pop just by finishing the main game. Ubisoft does not lock out trophies upon completion of the main story. This is especially helpful as players are forced into main missions that they can’t back out of, tracked by the resistance meter. While this concept keeps players following the main story, many have found it a nuisance that severely cripples their ability to play the game at their own pace.

Victory indeed.

Far Cry 5 has a good main campaign, with highlights that go beyond expectations. It really is the journey that matters here, so it[s recommended to sit back and play through the story at leisure, meet and learn about the people of Hope County, Montana, and experiment with the wide arsenal Ubisoft has provided for players. The only trophy to keep in mind here would be “Opportunity Knocks,” which comes from distracting enemy players with rocks thrown via the directional pad. This mechanic will be familiar to veterans of the franchise, or stealth game aficionados, and is a handy tool to get pesky cultists looking the other way. Try to remember to throw rocks once or twice every encounter. This will help boost the trophy, as well as make stealth a little easier to pull off.

Mop Up

The mop up phase is for any trophies that cannot or were not unlocked by progressing through the main campaign. We’ll talk about a few difficult trophies that players may need help with, and then focus on the five online trophies.

Far Cry 3 and 4 incentivized players to hunt in order to collect raw materials for crafting upgrades. Far Cry 5 uses hunting and fishing materials simply as a source of income, and occasional mission objectives. The game provides a menu to track hunting and fishing feats and completing them is as easy as looking for the animal icon on the map. The hare is the only animal that may prove difficult, as it only spawns in one of two areas. Thankfully a hunting syringe will tag the little bugger on the screen, and companions like Boomer, Peaches, Grace, or Jess can help make short work of the bunny rabbit.

Don’t forget to take in the scenery.

Two trophies, “Where’s the Beef?” and “Ignoble Beasts” want players to melee or punch animals to death. There is a buff that will make your character’s punches feel like they’re coming from the Hulk. The catch here is not to buy the brass knuckles before attempting these trophies (which can be gotten very early on), as some players reported that equipping the knucks locks out the trophy for that playthrough.

There are a ton of collectibles in the game, but Ubisoft only requires players to collect one of each for the trophy. Players can purchase maps with in game currency that point to the collectibles. Several trophies regarding vehicles have low completion rates among players, but can easily be cheesed by spawning vehicles from one of the many garages around Hope County.

There are a ton of vehicles in Far Cry 5. Find one that fits your play style.

Online Mop Up

Arcade Mode is Far Cry’s map editor/PVP mode. Arcade Mode holds five trophies, and the grind here may be what discourages most players from unlocking the Platinum Trophy.  The trophies “ARCADE Player,” “ARCADE Hero,” and “ARCADE Hunter,” can be completed with very little effort. Keep playing to level up to twenty, play the online PVE/Co-op modes five times, and kill 100 enemies in PVP, respectively. “ARCADE Enthusiast,” and “ARCADE Competitor,” require playing featured maps. So, make sure to vote for or to select the featured maps to get through this as efficiently as possible. “ARCADE Competitor,” is currently the trophy with the least unlocks, at 2.6% of players, and requires winning ten featured maps. Don’t let that little shit get between you and that sweet, sweet, Platinum Trophy.

Arcade Mode is inconsistent, but there’s fun to be had here for patient players.

Also, keep in mind that Far Cry 5 has a co-op mode. From my own experience, the game is significantly better with a buddy along for the ride and will make the last few hours of trophy popping hella more enjoyable. It’s dangerous out there Deputy – bring backup.

As always, I want to know what you think! What did you think of Far Cry 5? Which trophies are giving you the most trouble? What Plat are you currently working on? Which game would you like to see next on Platted That? Is Boomer a g o o d b o y? (Yes, of course Bront, they’re all good boys.) Send Handsome Phantom a tweet and let us know!
