Let’s Go Nuts! On The Switch! – Review (Switch)

Remember when you were a kid and you would play the game where the floor was lava? Well that’s basically the CliffsNotes synopsis of the new platformer Let’s Go Nuts!

In order to fend off a looming alien invasion you’ll need to make your way through levels as quickly as possible without falling to the ground and being consumed by the toxic goo that covers it. You’ll traverse over solid ground and use various types of boxes and blocks to create a path to get you to the finish line. As Furry Paws, the bravest squirrel in the land, you are tasked with this mission; save the world and your friends from certain alien doom.

If you’ve played a platformer at any time over the course of your life Let’s Go Nuts! Will feel very comfortable. That’s a testament to the game itself how familiar it will feel while also bringing a little something new to the table. Like most platformers you need to avoid falling and enemies in order to complete the level and move on to the next but the ability to basically build the level as you go by running into movable boxes makes this unlike any other platformer you’ve played.

Gravity plays a big part here and though you’ll run and jump like you’re used to in most games in the genre, here falling is equally important. You’ll ride the waves of boxes to safety almost hypnotically in an attempt to avoid the goo that lurks below your feet. As you make your way through each level you’ll want to collect as many regular and golden acorns as you can. While not the collectathon that a lot of platformers can be, this still adds an extra layer of depth to the levels and ramps up the replay ability of each level. Considering the game isn’t terribly long and you can beat the whole thing in one sit down if you chose, it’s nice to have a reason to come back and replay the levels. You’ll be able to use these as currency to buy items for Furry Paws to customize your character in many different fun ways.

The graphics and sound are mesmerizing and, if you’re not careful, you’ll find yourself in a trance as you make your way through each level. Each world feels completely unique with the difficulty slowly ramping up as you progress through the four worlds.

Competitive multiplayer will have you and your friends racing to beat each other’s times. As we mentioned earlier there isn’t a ton of content here, so having this competitive multiplayer aspect will help prolong the life of the game as well. Since the game is now available on the Switch this makes it the perfect game for a road trip or cross-country flight with your friends.

Recommendation: The Switch is the perfect console for Let’s Go Nuts! At a price point of $9.99 you’ll definitely get your money’s worth, especially if you compete against your friends. Though the game doesn’t reinvent the genre it adds enough new ideas to make it feel fresh and new while familiar all at the same time. Fans of platformers who own a Switch should definitely check out this game.
