Handsome & Humble: May Issue

A monthly look at the Humble Monthly games bundle

Handsome & Humble: May Issue

Handsome & Humble is a series from Handsome Phantom about the games in the Humble Monthly Bundle. Humble Monthly is subscription service ($12 per month) from Humble that give subscribers a bundle of PC games each month. There are always some AAA titles, as well as a handful of indie games. The bundles are usually worth somewhere around $200, so we think its an awesome value for what subscribers pay.

Subscribers also have the option to pay for the next month’s bundle early, in order to get the “early unlock”, which is typically two or three of the games from the next month’s bundle. Handsome and Humble is the monthly series where we look at what you’ll get in the early unlock as well as a quick overview of the games from the last bundle.

If you pay for May’s monthly bundle now, you’ll unlock the following games immediately:

Kerbal Space Program

The first early unlock game is Kerbal Space Program. This game was initially launched in alpha in 2011, and had its 1.0 release in 2015. Kerbal Space Program is a simulation game with a pretty realistic space flight physics engine. Players control a goofy alien race called the Kerbal and can experiment with a ton of different shuttle builds, researching and developing new technology, making money to buy new parts, and generally trying to colonize whatever planets and moons they find along the way.

Kerbal Space Program is a wacky and fun way to enjoy an afternoon. It may not be a game you’re going to rush out to buy, but you’ll probably find yourself losing track of time and laughing hysterically after watching your landing craft plummet to the planet’s surface for the thirteenth time.

Ruiner

Ruiner is a cyberpunk twin stick shooter that takes place in a run down, overcrowded city called Rengkok (We know, we laughed too). You find yourself controlling a very stoic character called “Puppy” and you’re being sent to kill the “Boss” of a place called “Heaven.” The humor is a little on the nose. Eventually you find out that your brain had been hacked, and you start your quest to rescue your brother, who has apparently been captured.

Aside from its weird storyline that can be sort of hard to follow, Ruiner features a pretty cool skill tree that allows for a ton of customization of play style. The game also feels a little bit like Mr. Shifty or Hotline Miami, in that players can pick up guns that their enemies drop, dash around the room using some kind of teleport, and utilize a variety of other “energy” based powers.

Dead Rising 4

You know them! You love them! Dead Rising is back with its fourth installment, and it is even weirder, gorrier, zanier, and more challenging zombie-slaying action than before. This game lets you know that it’s sarcastic and wacky right from the very beginning. Frank, an investigative journalist with a taste for the insane tags along with his young protege as she investigate a couple of wild leads. From there, it isn’t too long before he’s knee deep in zombie guts and bad puns.

Dead Rising 4 has undeniably fun gameplay, some lovable characters, and all the unrealistic zombie carnage that players have come to love from this franchise. This is a game worth playing, and a few friends would improve the gameplay experience even more. And if you just want to goof around, this is a great game to run around and try to get the funniest picture to post on to some obscure and oddly specific subreddit.

And many more!

Each monthly bundles contains a handful of other titles as well, some that are well known, some that are not so well known. Since we can’t tell you about any of the other titles that will be in May’s bundle, here’s a quick overview of the games in last month’s bundle!
