While games as a service like Fortnite, Destiny, and Rainbow Six: Siege take over the world, every developer is clamoring for their piece of the pie. However, what do you play while you’re waiting for the next big update or expansion? That’s right… something short and sweet. Sounds a lot like a single player game. This is where the single player market will expand – in the crevices of mainstream.
Handsome & Humble is an ongoing series from Handsome Phantom about the games in the Humble Monthly Bundle. Humble Monthly is subscription service ($12 per month) from Humble that give subscribers a bundle of PC games each month. There are always some AAA titles, as well as a handful of indie games. The bundles are usually worth somewhere around $200, so we think its an awesome value for what subscribers pay.
If the Naughty Dogs of the world have their way, the action in video games will become indistinguishable from real life with all those beautiful, individually crafted frames of animation blended and sanded down until the spaces between them can only be distinguished in the quantum realm.
It’s no secret that Fortnite is the new hotness. Though the game is still in its infancy it has become a pop culture phenomenon. In time it’s not hard to see Fortnite praised in the same sentence as Star Wars and Harry Potter. Not only is it breaking down barriers in the video game world, it’s taking over everywhere you look. Though it appears this happened over night it was no accident. Fortnite is another feather in the Epic games cap that for anyone paying attention shouldn’t be surprised.

I remember it like it was yesterday. March 12, 2015. One of my best friends sent me a message telling me that the Topps trading card company had just released a new app on iOS and that app was a Star Wars collectible card trading game. At that time, a mere nine months before we were about to finally have a new trilogy of Star Wars films, the two words that meant the most to me were “Star Wars” – with “collectible” being a close third.
It takes a lot of balls to show a game three E3’s in a row and keep so much a secret. Each showing pulls back the curtain just a little bit more. This is a guy asking for our trust, and there is no reason not to give it. The Metal Gear series has pushed the medium forward in so many ways.
Here we are now in 2018, after years of silence and speculation, and the game will arrive early next year. As far as everything we’ve seen so far, it looks like it will be worth the wait.
Gamers would tell you that E3 is even better than Christmas, unless of course you get all the games for Christmas that you were hyped about from E3. In that case Christmas could compete with E3, but for most people E3 is the Mecca of video games.
