Mega Man Returns In A Big Way

Retro gaming has returned with a vengeance in recent years. The NES Classic and Super NES Classic have both proven that these games can stand toe-to-toe with recent releases. When the Super NES Classic released it was the number one selling console that month. With all of this love for games from that era, the time is right for a Mega Man resurgence.

When Mighty No. 9 was first announced it blew up Kickstarter, proving that people wanted a new Mega Man type of game. With this announcement the stars had seemed to align and we were finally getting a game as close to Mega Man as we could. As time went on and the game took forever to release, the anticipation only grew. Once the game was released to very subpar reception, fans of the series now only longed for more.

One of the standouts on the Super NES Classic was Mega Man X. The X series, which started on the Super Nintendo, hasn’t seen a release since 2004 with the release of Mega Man X 8.  The X series further expanded the Mega Man universe in a big way. Taking place 1,000 years after the events in the original Mega Man saga, X was set in a futuristic world where Humans and reploids exist together.

In 2018 we will be given the opportunity to return to the X universe when the Mega Man X Collection is released. Featuring Mega Man X through Mega Man X 8 this collection will keep you smiling for hours on end. After the success of the prior two Mega Man collections, this will be a dream come true.

That’s not the only treat 2018 will be giving fans as Mega Man 11 will be released sending the franchise in a beautiful new direction. The new 2.5 D experience adds a depth to the game that we haven’t seen in the 2D Mega Man space to date. The hand drawn art style is gorgeous and Mega Man looks better than ever. Much like the X timeline, the traditional Mega Man series hasn’t seen a release in years, when Mega Man 10 was released back in 2010.

2018 is already shaping up to be a fantastic year for gaming. One where we can fondly relive memories from our past and enjoy new experiences at the same time. The future is bright for both Mega Man and the video game industry as a whole.
