Adventure Pals (PSX 2017)

Fighting with a buddy against an evil bad guy that wants to turn everyone into hotdogs has never been easier than it is in Adventure Pals! Armor Games is publishing a creation by Massive Monster that brings cooperative platforming to a new level!

We had the opportunity to check out Adventure Pals this weekend at Playstation Experience 2017 as well as sit down with the lead developer on the project. It’s immediately apparent that the game designers wear their influences (Stephen Universe, Adventure Time, etc.) on their sleeves because the game draws many inspirations from other titles. This is not a bad thing at all though! It makes the game incredibly cute and appealing while also allowing the player to exist in a universe that seems instantly accessible.

Adventure Pals is supposed to be a fun game about adventuring with your friends, and it really is a blast. Not only was gameplay exciting and creative, but it was also surprisingly funny. We’ve played many games where the humor, especially text-based, didn’t quite land. This one had us laughing out loud as we read the dialogue while moving through the levels.

The press build that we played allowed us to access different levels of the game and experience a variety of weapons, powerups, and enemies that all have their own unique quirks and features. Players are trying to escape from and defeat Mr. B since he’s kidnapping people and trying to turn them into hotdogs.

Yes, I said hotdogs.

Platforming has never seemed more intuitive than in Adventure Pals, and it’s entirely possible that this is the tightest feeling cooperative game we’ve ever played. You won’t be bored or perplexed as you venture from A to B, but you will be challenged in some pretty neat ways.

Did we mention there is a giraffe? Maybe even a unicorn as well. You can ride it, store it in your backpack, and even use it as a helicopter type device to get from place to place.

Adventure Pals is packed with levels and will be a surefire treat. No release date has been given yet, but you expect to see it on Steam, PS4, XBOX One, and Switch sometime in 2018!
